What we do

Climate Change Counsel provides independent expertise on law and climate change. Our focus areas are international climate law, international investment law and arbitration, and the role of lawyers in the climate transition.

We act as experts, conduct research and offer lectures and trainings in the nexus of climate change and law.

Engagement as International Law and Policy Expert with the Asian Development Bank with the objective to strengthen knowledge of international trade and investment agreements and their relationship to sustainable development, in ADB Developing Member Countries.

Annual event in Stockholm and online, co-hosted by JP Infonet and Climate Change Counsel. The Summit targets the dynamic intersection of law and climate change, and explores how lawyers can best serve clients and other stakeholders in the ongoing transition.​ The inagural Law and Climate Change Summit was held in April 2024 and the second conference is scheduled for September 2025.

Climate Change Counsel surveyed Swedish commercial law firms and their involvement in the climate transformation of their clients. Findings were published in a report which also reviewed relevant developments in other countries. The project was conducted in collaboration with JP Infonet.

The ICCA Panel of Experts to Develop a Paris Agreement Conciliation Annex is co-chaired by Annette Magnusson and Catherine Amirfar, Debevoise & Plimpton (New York). The panel convenes a high-level panel of experts to develop and promote a proposed draft conciliation annex for Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), with a view to facilitating its adoption by Member States.

Climate Change Counsel's engagement in the project is supported by the Global Challenges Foundation.

A study of arbitral awards rendered under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). The study maps climate and energy transition issues in the ECT caselaw, including how arbitral tribunals have weighed the treaty’s investor protections against obligations under other treaties.
